Colorado Girls Flag Football Stat Tracker: Built for CHSAA Programs
Colorado built one of the strongest girls flag football foundations in the country before the sport was even official. After a three-year pilot, CHSAA sanctioned it as a varsity sport, making Colorado the 11th state in the nation to do so. The season runs in the fall, the competition is real, and coaches are now expected to keep a full stat record. Here is what CHSAA coaches need to track this season, and the free app built to do it from the sideline.
Where Colorado girls flag stands
CHSAA runs girls flag football in the fall with championships in Class 4A and 5A. It is now one of more than 20 girls activities the association recognizes, and it earned that status through a rigorous multi-year sanctioning process, not a quiet rule change.
The growth behind that vote is the real story. What started as a Broncos-backed pilot in a few Denver-area districts grew to 50 schools, 10 districts, and nearly 1,500 players across hundreds of games before the state made it permanent. The Denver Broncos Foundation funded those early seasons, hosted the championship tournaments at the team's training facility, and ran coaching clinics to raise the level of play statewide. That kind of backing means Colorado programs are held to a higher standard, and stats are part of that standard.
The competition has already produced real programs and real rivalries. Teams like Arvada West built championship runs during the pilot years, and those title games continue now that the sport is sanctioned. The bar is set.
Colorado plays 7v7, and that changes what you track
CHSAA flag football is 7v7, not the 5v5 most youth and NFL FLAG leagues run, and it kept that format through sanctioning. Bigger field, more passing, real route concepts, and more players touching the ball. A touchdown count does not capture a 7v7 game.
To actually evaluate your team, your box score needs completions, attempts, passing yards, receiving yards by player, rushing yards, and flag pulls. That is the difference between knowing the final score and knowing why you won. StatHawk's 7v7 girls format is built for exactly this, so you are not bending a 5v5 tool to fit your game.
The stats tell the story
Colorado was an early sanctioning state, which gives its athletes a head start on the college pipeline. NAIA flag football is now real, with conference championships and growing rosters, and recruiters look for verified varsity production, not anecdote. A player coming out of a CHSAA program with a full season of tracked games has a profile a college coach can actually evaluate.
You cannot fax a paper stat sheet to a recruiter. You can send a season of per game production exported straight from the sideline.
Why paper stops working in a CHSAA season
A pilot year is forgiving. A sanctioned season is not. Once the league standings, the 4A or 5A bracket, and the championship at the Broncos facility are on the line, a clipboard and a parent's notes app stop being enough. The passing line blurs by week three, flag pulls go uncounted, and the data you need to argue for a state seed is missing.
Live flag football moves too fast to write down by hand while you are coaching it.
What StatHawk does for CHSAA coaches
Track the game tap by tap from the sideline. Plays sync even when the field wifi does not cooperate, so a dropped signal never costs you a drive.
Parents follow along in any browser with GameView. You share one link to the team chat, and families watch the live score, the drive, and the play-by-play without downloading anything. In a state where the sport is still introducing itself to families, that visibility builds the program.
And StatHawk is an official MaxPreps stat import partner. CHSAA programs report to MaxPreps. Track your game once in StatHawk, then send the finished box score straight to your MaxPreps team page. No retyping, no second stat entry after a long game day.
All of the core tracking is free. Live scoring, full box scores, player and team stats, PDF exports, and the shareable live link.
Set up before the fall window
CHSAA tryouts and practices open in the fall, and the regular season leads into the 4A and 5A championships. Build your roster and formats now so game one is tracked from the first snap, not reconstructed afterward. The teams that track all season are the ones with the data when it counts, for lineups, for parents, and for recruiting.
