Flag Football Analytics: What Your Game Data Can Tell You

The box score is where most flag football coaches stop. Final score, who scored, maybe a passing line. It answers what happened. It does not answer why you won, who is actually improving, or what to fix before the next game.

That second layer is analytics. Beyond the box score, the same play data you already track can answer the questions you coach around. Here is what that looks like, organized by the questions coaches actually ask.

Are our drives efficient?

Scoring is the outcome. Efficiency is the cause. A handful of possession metrics tell you whether your offense is moving the ball or stalling out:

• Points Per Drive: total team points divided by offensive drives, the cleanest measure of what each possession is worth.
• Scoring Drive Rate: the share of drives that end in points.
• Three-and-Out Rate: drives that go nowhere, no first down and no score.
• First Down Rate: how often your pass and run plays move the chains.

Read together, these separate a loss caused by bad luck from one caused by a stalling offense, and tell you whether a close win was actually earned.

Which quarterback gives us the best chance?

Completion percentage hides too much on its own. The QB Dashboard scores each quarterback from 0 to 100 using four things that matter: completion rate, touchdown rate, interception avoidance, and sack avoidance. It only rates quarterbacks with enough attempts to be meaningful, so a two-QB rotation becomes a real comparison instead of a gut call.

Are we too dependent on one player?

Roster Balance measures how concentrated your receiving game is, especially your top receiver and your top two combined. An offense that runs through one player scores points right up until the game an opponent takes that player away. Seeing your concentration early tells you who else needs targets in practice.

Who is changing games on defense?

Defense is where the box score lies most. A defender can wreck an offense without the scoreboard showing it. The Defensive Playmaker Index ranks your defenders by weighted defensive plays, so flag pulls, sacks, interceptions, fumbles, pass breakups, and defensive scores all roll into one picture of impact. Defensive Stops adds the team view: how often your defense gives up nothing on a possession.

Who is improving, and who is slumping?

Two metrics catch trends a single game hides. Player Momentum compares a player's last three games against their season average, so you see who is heating up and who is cooling off. Player Consistency turns game-to-game swings into a reliability score, separating the player you can count on every week from the one who has one big game and three quiet ones. Both are lineup and practice-plan tools.

Is our play-calling predictable?

If you can see your tendencies, so can the team across the field. StatHawk breaks your pass and run split down by down and by score state, flags which play types actually succeed, where a success is a first down or a touchdown, and shows average drive length by how the drive ended. That is the gap between thinking you are balanced and knowing it.

How does this season compare to the last?
